Galerija umjetnina otvorena je 1931. godine. Specifičan i vrijedan fundus muzeja danas broji preko 5200 djela i vremenski obuhvaća period od 14. stoljeća do recentne umjetničke produkcije. Uz djela hrvatskih autora, muzej čuva i djela umjetnika iz Jugoslavije, Italije, Njemačke, Austrije, Francuske, Češke. Ta se raznolikost odrazila na koncepciju izložbe zbirke koja na 2200 m² predstavlja oko 400 umjetnina.
