Pirogovi park on nime saanud N. Pirogovi järgi, kes oli eksperimentaalkirurgia, topograafilise anatoomia ja välikirurgia rajaja. Tema tööde kaudu levis Tartu kirurgia kuulsus üle kogu Venemaa ja väljaspool Venemaad. Tartus õppinud ja professoriks saanud arstiteadlasele pühendatud monument valmis 1952. aastal. Alates 25. märtsist 2023 on KGB kongide muuseum taas avatud tavapärastel aegadel: teisipäevast laupäevani kl 11kuni kl 17. KGB kongide muuseum asub Riia mäel „hallis majas”, kus 1940.–1950. aastatel tegutses NKVD/KGB. Külastajatele avatud hoone keldriosas asus poliitilistel põhjustel arreteeritute eeluurimisvangla.
