Das Tiergehege liegt idyllisch im stillgelegten Steinbruch am Wolfsburger Klieversberg, direkt neben dem Klinikum der Stadt Wolfsburg.
Der Steinbruch am Klieversberg gehört geologisch zur so genannten Allertal-Linie bzw. zum Hehlinger Graben. Die Westseite des Steinbruchs besteht aus einer mehr als 10m hohen Wand aus grauem Kalk und Mergelsteinen, welche in der Unteren und Mittleren Kimmeridge-Zeit aufgeschoben wurde. Diese Formation ist allzu oft nicht zu finden.
