1560年（永禄3年）、駿河・遠江・三河を制した今川義元の軍と、尾張の織田信長の軍が戦った桶狭間の戦い。3千の織田軍が2万5千とも言われる今川軍を破ったことでも有名です。ここ、沓掛城址公園は、その戦いの前夜、今川方が入城した城の址。義元は、ここから大高城（名古屋市緑区）へと向かう途上で討ち取られました。現在は、本丸址、土塁、内堀などが残り、公園として整備されています。 春には見事な桜が咲き誇り、隠れた桜の名所になっています。
