Bij de bouw in 1620 was Huis Bartolotti een van de grootste koopmanshuizen in de stad. Toch was het de walvisreder Jan van Tarelink niet genoeg. Hij liet halverwege de 18de eeuw een enorm achterhuis aanbouwen met als klapstuk de Blauwe Zaal in Rococostijl. In het pand lopen allerlei stijlen door elkaar heen: de bewoners wilden hun stempel op het huis drukken. Dans je mee in deze rococo-zaal van walvisreder Jan van Tarelink? Of help je met het indekken van de eettafel voor het overdadige diner?

De Haarlemmerpoort is in 1840, één dag voor de inhuldiging van koning Willem II feestelijk opgeleverd. De prins reed er toen in triomf doorheen. De poort kwam in de plaats van de vorige Haarlemmerpoort die behoorde bij de 17e -eeuwse stadsmuur. Stadsherstel nam hem over van Woningcorporatie Ymere en kon hem restaureren dankzij een crowdfundactie.
