Bij de oprichting was het de bedoeling dat Café Loetje in Amsterdam Zuid een succesvol biljartcafé zou worden. Door de ossenhaasbiefstuk op de kaart te zetten, zat de zaak al snel vol met liefhebbers. Vanuit dat ene restaurant heeft Loetje zich verspreid over heel Nederland.
