La Colegiata de San Nicolás de Alicante fue erigida como Concatedral el 9 de marzo de 1959, por Bula de Juan XXIII, por la que la diócesis pasaba a denominarse de Orihuela –Alicante y esta iglesia era elevada a rango de Concatedral. La bula se ejecutó el 15 de agosto de 1959.
La construcción se alza en pleno centro histórico de Alicante. Fue levantada entre 1616 y 1738 en el espacio que antes ocupaba una iglesia medieval.
