八德中正堂因長久荒廢致建築本體逐漸損壞，急需修復以避免頹圮，因礙於經費有限，由桃園縣政府文化局分三期工程進行修復，98年第一期工程經費新台幣180萬元，辦理屋頂鋼構桁架整修，99年第二期工程經費新台幣699萬元，辦理屋面瓦作、外牆、門窗修復工項，第三期工程經費新台幣2,217萬元，由文化部及桃園縣政府共同分攤，規劃為圖書館使用，工程自100年2月25日開工，於101年11月23日完工。
本歷史建築修復後由大湳分館進駐使用，做為藝文推展及在地居民終身學習場所，發揮歷史建築保存及活化再利用功能，落實文化資產保存目的。
因本縣於103年12月25日正式升格為直轄市，本館自即日起更名為「桃園市立圖書館大湳分館」。
