「新竹市影像博物館」前身為「有樂館」，興建於日治時期1933年（昭和8年），為全台首座有冷卻（換氣）設備之歐化劇場，是日本當時展現國力的豪華型公共建築之一，建築物外觀與室內樓梯石柱及天花板鋼架及牆面裝飾花紋等均為1933年保持至今。 1944年有樂館屋頂遭轟炸同盟國軍轟炸，座位全毀，但牆面未受損；光復後重新整修，改為市營戲院「國民大戲院」，於1946年重新開幕，除播放電影外，也舉辦音樂會及入伍徵召等活動，歷歷都為新竹市民留下鮮明的共同生活記憶，也記載著新竹都市發展的歷程。後因錄影帶等新媒體不斷推陳出新，戲院終於經不起市場考驗，於1991年結束營業後進入閒置期，直至1996年於此地舉辦「風城情波」全國文藝季活動，再次喚醒市民的記憶與情感，進而促進「影像博物館」的再生利用計畫，最終於2000年5月21日以博物館的新姿態正式落成啟用。 2010年登錄為歷史建築。

“菜櫥”也稱做碗筷櫥，是早期家庭收納碗筷和暫放準備用餐的料理。家人到齊用餐時再把料理拿出來。2006年兩位6年紀的廣告設計人，為了拾起兒時記憶中的味道，將“老菜櫥”註冊為店名，經營起小吃料理。印象中廚房裏的菜櫥，總是放著一些碗盤和即將讓家人享用的家常料理，準備讓家人用餐，菜櫥裡往往不是什麼山珍海味，而是媽媽的家常料理和家的味道。
