霧峰，自1953年台灣首顆 洋菇 於農試所(台灣省農業試驗所)成功栽培出時，50年代初，便在全臺菇業經濟中獨占鰲頭，加上政府單位及辛勤的農民相助，使得當時的霧峰成為名副其實的「菇類王國」。
為了傳承這段歷史的歲月，於1998年，霧峰區農會便打造這座佔地近400坪的台灣菇類文化館並坐落於本會大樓的六樓。至今為止，本館已經歷近30年的歲月，但仍是台灣唯一世界「唯二」的菇類博物館（另一處在荷蘭）。在二次整建後，以全新的視覺呈現給每一位來賓。
同時，本館也蒐集了來自各方相關菇類產品、標本及資料，讓大家了解台灣菇蕈產業的發展，並重新命名為【霧峰菇類產學館】以實踐「產業見學」。
館內展示內容如真菌/菇類/高等真菌解說、文獻紀錄中的菇類、臺灣菇類大事記、霧峰菇類產業、吃菇/菇類研究/菇類藝術花園 、共創新局以及螢光菇館。其中亮點包含新完工的的仙女環模型、館內的多媒體互動、菇類未來性物品展示以及原先的螢光菇館等。並配合導覽動線的整合，更能使來賓實際體會菇的奧妙。
