霧峰，自1953年台灣首顆 洋菇 於農試所(台灣省農業試驗所)成功栽培出時，50年代初，便在全臺菇業經濟中獨占鰲頭，加上政府單位及辛勤的農民相助，使得當時的霧峰成為名副其實的「菇類王國」。
為了傳承這段歷史的歲月，於1998年，霧峰區農會便打造這座佔地近400坪的台灣菇類文化館並坐落於本會大樓的六樓。至今為止，本館已經歷近30年的歲月，但仍是台灣唯一世界「唯二」的菇類博物館（另一處在荷蘭）。在二次整建後，以全新的視覺呈現給每一位來賓。
同時，本館也蒐集了來自各方相關菇類產品、標本及資料，讓大家了解台灣菇蕈產業的發展，並重新命名為【霧峰菇類產學館】以實踐「產業見學」。
館內展示內容如真菌/菇類/高等真菌解說、文獻紀錄中的菇類、臺灣菇類大事記、霧峰菇類產業、吃菇/菇類研究/菇類藝術花園 、共創新局以及螢光菇館。其中亮點包含新完工的的仙女環模型、館內的多媒體互動、菇類未來性物品展示以及原先的螢光菇館等。並配合導覽動線的整合，更能使來賓實際體會菇的奧妙。

潭子分館於民國75年籌建，77年11月12日落成啟用。因位於臺三線與縱貫鐵路交通樞紐，且緊鄰潭子國民小學及加工出口區，一向為當地重要閱讀書庫與文化交流場所，深受民眾喜愛。民國105年3月1日因應「臺中市立圖書館」成立，更名為「臺中市立圖書館潭子分館」。因應時代變遷，閱讀人口增加，館內空間不敷使用，市府斥資1275萬工程經費重新規劃設計，107年11月13日完成空間改造，並打造單車休憩站，提供舒適座椅、打氣筒、簡易維修包等設備，供民眾使用，積極推廣閱讀活動、加深在地連結與圖書服務。
館藏設有期刊閱報區、樂齡區、兒童閱讀區、特色館藏區及新書展示區、臺中學區，並增設親子洗手間及哺乳室，三樓則增設討論室，特別規劃長桌椅供學生共讀學習，環繞閱讀區的大片玻璃窗設計更將鄰近的潭子國小美麗校園引入圖書館，綠意伴讀，更顯輕鬆悠閒。
潭子分館緊鄰全臺知名的潭雅神自行車道，特別以「單車行旅」為典藏特色，收集單車樂活、休閒旅遊等相關書籍，方便民眾取書借閱，館內定期舉辦說故事、單車旅行講座等活動，館外設有ibike站點，藉由跨域連結展現閱讀的各種可能性，不僅為市民朋友生活資訊的補給站，更是疲憊心靈得以放鬆...
