場館由荷蘭大都會建築事務所(OMA)雷姆．庫哈斯(Rem Koolhaas)及大衛． 希艾萊特(David Gianotten)設計，其設計理念源自士林夜市鴛鴦麻辣鍋，充分發揮空間運用的台灣極致美學。「劇場魔術方塊」的創意建築結構，讓劇場既各自獨立，又可變化結合，包含1,500席大劇院，800席球劇場，及500-800席藍盒子，其中藍盒子及大劇院更可連通，創造出長65公尺，寬20公尺，2,300席次的超級大劇院。
空間運用的彈性及開放，不僅給予創作者更多想像空間，觀眾也會在其中找到接觸劇場新的角度。北藝中心將以「打開可能，成為可能」作為營運核心理念，持續提供藝術家及觀眾新的體驗。
