成立於1997年3月28日
源自十六世紀德國宮廷貴族的袖珍藝術，已傳遍了歐洲及北美。袖珍博物館尋訪世界各地網羅一流大師作品，擁有排名世界級的收藏規模，包羅萬象的袖珍精品經過組合佈置後，主題作品目前展出約兩百餘件，主要有呈現整座建築內外佈置的娃娃屋（Dollhouse）、各種房間精緻寫照的夢幻屋盒（Roombox），趣味創意的主題作品等。這些小巧的藝術品大至建築體，小到書桌上的鑰匙，都嚴格遵守國際標準比例，微縮成實物的十二分之一來製作。本館以歐美作品為主，又以現代作品為收藏重點，因為現代作品製作技藝高超精確，每個細節都鉅細靡遺地呈現出來，更具可看性與學習價值。

場館由荷蘭大都會建築事務所(OMA)雷姆．庫哈斯(Rem Koolhaas)及大衛． 希艾萊特(David Gianotten)設計，其設計理念源自士林夜市鴛鴦麻辣鍋，充分發揮空間運用的台灣極致美學。「劇場魔術方塊」的創意建築結構，讓劇場既各自獨立，又可變化結合，包含1,500席大劇院，800席球劇場，及500-800席藍盒子，其中藍盒子及大劇院更可連通，創造出長65公尺，寬20公尺，2,300席次的超級大劇院。
空間運用的彈性及開放，不僅給予創作者更多想像空間，觀眾也會在其中找到接觸劇場新的角度。北藝中心將以「打開可能，成為可能」作為營運核心理念，持續提供藝術家及觀眾新的體驗。
