Folkestone Artworks: Richard Wilson, 18 Holes (Other)
Coastal Promenade Folkestone CT20 2DZ United Kingdom It's most quiet on Tuesdays.
Folkestone's former Rotunda Amusement Park, typical of seaside towns from Blackpool to Coney Island, was not only the inspiration for Richard Wilson's 18 Holes but also provided the materials. The dysfunctional and long overgrown crazy golf course was the only remnant of the otherwise erased park. Wilson's herculean project of cutting, lifting, restoring and reassembling the eighteen weighty concrete slabs is a tribute to the memory of this former popular tourist attraction.

Folkestone Artworks: Strange Cargo, The Luckiest Place on Earth (Other)
Broadmead Rd Folkestone CT19 5HB United Kingdom It's most quiet on Mondays.
The Luckiest Place on Earth is installed beneath the railway bridge over the main road at Folkestone Central Station. It has the effect of transforming the bridge into a Lucky Gateway to the town through artistic sleight of hand. Below, at pedestrian street level, the Recycling Point for Luck and Wishes is embedded in the bridge structure alongside the street crossing. Strange Cargo invites us to affirm our own perception and relationship to luck, and how our attitudes might affect our future.

Folkestone Artworks: Ruth Ewan, We Could Have Been Anything That We Wanted To Be (Other)
North Side Zig Zag Path It's most quiet on Saturdays.
On 5th October 1793 the recently formed Republic of France abandoned the Gregorian calendar in favour of an entirely new model, the French Republican Calendar, which became the official calendar of France for 13 years. Inspired by this historical model, for the 2011 Triennial, Ruth Ewan created new clocks and altered existing ones around Folkestone to 'tell' decimal time. There were 10 clocks in all, with just one remaining.
