The human figure and its ecological counterpart the seal represent an ancient way of life, standing on thin ice.

Cristina Iglesias's architectural intervention on the ramparts of Martello 4 offers the illusion of an entrance into another world. The sculpture allows visitors a chance to view this historic monument which remained hidden by a screen of trees and shrubs for many years. Visitors need to negotiate a path cut through the shrubs and trees to find a mirrored walk-in structure clad with resin foliage.

Bronstein has described his Beach Hut in the style of Nicholas Hawksmoor as a 'monument to architecture', paying homage to the quintessentially English architectural vocabulary of the 18th Century Baroque architect, Nicholas Hawksmoor. Situated next to other brightly coloured beach huts on the water front, alongside the Council's mundane arrangements for park maintenance, Bronstein's sculpture's dramatic presence invokes a delightful and piquant sense of folly.

Folkestone's former Rotunda Amusement Park, typical of seaside towns from Blackpool to Coney Island, was not only the inspiration for Richard Wilson's 18 Holes but also provided the materials. The dysfunctional and long overgrown crazy golf course was the only remnant of the otherwise erased park. Wilson's herculean project of cutting, lifting, restoring and reassembling the eighteen weighty concrete slabs is a tribute to the memory of this former popular tourist attraction.

Like a French Impressionist painter on a day visit from Boulogne, American artist Spencer Finch observed the ever-changing tone and colour of the Channel during his visits to Folkestone over several weeks throughout 2010. His observations led him to produce a palette of 100 variants of the colour of the sea, which was used to dye 100 flags.
