North Lido Beach Park, acquired as an undeveloped area to remain in its natural state, was purchased through a bond referendum by the City of Sarasota in 1977. The park contains an upland area with 49 acres of Australian pine woods, grassy savannahs and walking trails, plus 22.

Formally known as Pineapple Park. This park was recently dedicated and named in honor of “Mr. Downtown”, Paul Thorpe, Jr. in 2017. Home to Smithsonian-registered Mermaid Fountain. Provides bench seating.
In recognition of the significant contribution to the beauty of the Sarasota area, Paul Thorpe, Jr. Park was awarded the 2018 Civic Beautification Award, for Outstanding Landscaping, by the Sarasota Garden Club in February 2019.
