Venue description

The Purty Kitchen has a claim to make on being the oldest pub in Ireland. Since its first licence was granted in 1728 the establishment, like the country and the locality has experienced huge changes. One constant throughout all the change has been that old style hospitality, good vittles and top quality beverages have been available at no. 5 Old Dun Leary Road. In 1728 Ireland was ruled by the British and Dun Leary was a sleepy, picturesque town on the coast of south Dublin. The coast road from Blackrock to Dun Leary was a popular evening’s constitutional with the fashionable and afluent of Dublin society. They sought refreshment after their exertions and a Mr. James Conyngham saw his chance to open a coffee house.
