Venue description

The Georgia Theatre building structure was originally erected in 1889, and since then has served many different functions; it has been a masonic temple, a Sears retail store, the South’s first YMCA, and a movie theatre. Since being converted into a music venue in 1978, Georgia Theatre has hosted a myriad of notable names including REM, The B-52s, The Police, BB King, Willie Nelson, Beck, John Mayer, The Avett Brothers, My Morning Jacket and more. Gutted by a devastating fire in 2009, the Georgia Theatre was fully renovated and reopened in 2011. The venue serves as the musical center of the fabled Athens music scene and continues to build upon its rich legacy.
