Venue description

This old hostelry of liquid culture is steeped in the annals of Dublin’s licensed history. As Burgh Quay expanded commercially in the early 1800s both the demand and opportunity for sustenance and hospitality services became a necessity. In that year James Rickard negotiated a long lease with the landlords and set up business here as a Spirit Dealer and Fish Factor. Next door at no. 2, Julia Maguire ran a canvas, sacking, rope and hemp business that was in constant demand from the ships berthed at the seawall. Today, this old beacon of antiquity has been transformed by publicans John and Robert Mahon, who have revitalised the spirit of the old house.
