Venue description

Originally known as Nollen Plaza, Cowles Commons, was completed in 2015 and represents a significant commitment by Des Moines Performing Arts to give back to the community. The newly designed space retains the popular Crusoe Umbrella by artist Claus Oldenburg and adds lighting sculpture Swirl by artist Jim Campbell. Joining the sculptures is the popular zero-depth Lauridsen Fountain which can be enjoyed throughout the warm months of the year. The space was designed to be multi-functional and hosts numerous community events. The space is managed by Des Moines Performing Arts and sits directly west of the Des Moines Civic Center.
