The Confederation Court Mall was opened in 1979, rejuvenating the downtown core of Charlottetown. The Confederation Court Mall is as unique as the Island it calls home. The mall was built by expanding and refurbishing existing buildings on the block and then linking them with a newly built interior. It was a joint project, completed by local business owners, government funding and private funding. In 2011 the Holman Grand Hotel, directly connected to the mall, was completed. Also completed with the hotel, an underground pedway linking the Confederation Court Mall to the Confederation Centre of the Arts. Pedways now link the Confederation Court Complex from Fitzroy Street all the way to Victoria Row.
