La Torre fa parte di un'imponente costruzione voluta dalla famiglia Guinigi, ricchi e potenti mercanti lucchesi del secolo XIV, ormai unica testimonianza delle oltre 250 torri che arricchivano la città in epoca medioevale. E' alta 44,25 metri, la sommità è un giardino pensile dove sono stati impiantati grossi lecci ormai secolari; è raggiungibile dopo aver salito 230 gradini. Il panorama da quell'altezza è particolarmente suggestivo, oltre al Centro Storico, si vedono in lontananza le colline lucchesi.
