Venue description

Today's Maribor Castle features the governmental court of the sovereign (1478-1481) and the Northeastern defensive structures, including the bastion and lodge. In 1620, under the Counts Khiessl, it transformed into a residential castle with additions like the Knights Hall and Loretto Chapel. Post-1727, Counts Brandis enhanced the castle with a new staircase, heightened bastion, and Festive Hall. The construction of Grajska ulica in 1871 divided the complex. The municipality of Maribor purchased the castle in 1933, and by 1938, it became the home of the Regional Museum Maribor. The Regional Museum Maribor exhibits a wide variety of items from the Prehistoric Age, the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque Periods, 19th and 20th C. and more.
