Venue description

Built in 1713, the Old State House was the center of royal government in Massachusetts Bay Colony and is the oldest surviving public building in Boston. The Boston Massacre unfolded in its shadow on March 5, 1770, and the Declaration of Independence was read for the first time in Boston from its balcony on July 18, 1776. Today, Revolutionary Spaces connects people to the history and continuing practice of democracy through the interwoven stories of the Old State House and Old South Meeting House. With one joint ticket, visitors can explore two historic Freedom Trail sites. Visit today for an array of museum exhibits, gallery talks, walking tours, public programs, and more!
