A collection of 6600 objects (ca. 3500 on show), which cover 6000 years of history, from the 4th millennium BC to the 19th century. The museum has two wings: (a) Ancient Greek Art, with masterpieces of vase-painting, bronze-working and sculpture, and (b) Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Art, with exquisite icons, bronze objects and gold jewelry. The museum offers a concise overview of Greek history in about an hour, in a family-friendly atmosphere. Also: - The museum is accessible to visitors with disabilities. - The Byzantine Wing is housed in a 19th century Neoclassical house with colorful roof-paintings . - At the basement of the Ancient Art Wing there are remains of the Medieval wall of Athens (13th century). - There is a nice museum-shop.
