The Durban Botanic Gardens is situated in the city of Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. It opened in 1849 and is Durban's oldest public institution and the oldest surviving botanic garden on the African continent. The Gardens cover an area of 15 hectares in a subtropical climate. The Durban Botanic Gardens curates major collections such as cycads, palms and orchids, and in the true tradition of a botanic garden, is really several gardens within one. The Gardens is open every day of the year and entrance to the Gardens is free. Donations are gladly accepted and are used towards maintenance of the Gardens.
