The birth of Mahaguthi Craft with Conscience started with yarn spinning and weaving. Mahaguthi empowers women by providing long term employment under fair, just and sustainable working conditions. It practices Fair Trade as its core principle that puts people first. Mahaguthi represents the efforts of more than one thousand individual producers, fifty percent of whom are from remote and mountainous areas. Many of its producers are women who are given the chance to employ traditional skills in their own homes, thus enabling them to generate extra income. In addition, some 40 percent of the income generated by it provides artisan and their children with training, food, shelter, clothing, health care and education.
