国指定史跡の松山城跡内にある愛媛県美術館は、「みる・つくる・まなぶ」を楽しめる参加創造型美術館として、1998年にオープン。城郭の景観と調和した造りが目を引く館内には、コレクションの中核となるモネ、ボナール、セザンヌなど海外作家の作品や、近代日本を代表する安田靫彦、中村彝らの作品に加え、郷土出身作家である杉浦非水、柳瀬正夢、野間仁根、真鍋博、畦地梅太郎らの作品など、約12,000点を収蔵。年に5～6回の展示替えを行うコレクション展のほか、さまざまな企画展を通じて、国内外の多様な文化や価値観に触れることができます。ちなみに、愛媛県美術館の前身である愛媛県立美術館は1970年に開館し、現在はアトリエや県民ギャラリーの機能を持つ愛媛県美術館南館として活用。アトリエでは、版画や木工、染織、写真、粘土などの制作が可能となっており、利用者の自主的な創作活動をサポートしています。
