立田山麓にある、熊本藩主・細川家の菩提寺泰勝寺（たいしょうじ）跡です。細川家初代藤孝（ふじたか）夫妻と二代目忠興（ただおき）とガラシャ夫人の墓「四つ御廟（ごびょう）」や、武人でありながら茶道にかけては国内随一といわれた細川忠興の原図に基づいて復元された茶室「仰松軒」などがあります。茶室「仰松軒」にある手水鉢（ちょうずばち）は、京都で細川忠興が愛用したもので、豊臣秀吉（とよとみひでよし）や茶の師・千利休（せんのりきゅう）も使用したと伝えられます。歴代の藩主は、この手水鉢を参勤交代の道中にも持参してその風情をめでたといわれ、四季折々に茶会が催されています。 また、細川忠利（ほそかわただとし）から客分として招かれた宮本武蔵（みやもとむさし）の墓もあるといわれています。宮本武蔵の墓は全国に５か所あるといわれ、そのうちの３か所は、正保２年（1645）に生涯を閉じるまで晩年を過ごした熊本にあります。ひとつは、この立田自然公園内泰勝寺（たいしょうじ）跡。二つ目は、老杉が立ち並ぶ大津街道（旧国道57号沿い）にある「武蔵塚（むさしづか）」。三つ目は、市内西部の島崎町（しまさきまち）にある「西の武蔵...
