Most foot traffic data providers sell by quote. Here is what Placer.ai, Advan Research, Foursquare, Pine59, Veraset and others cost, from their own pricing pages, public contracts and marketplace listings.

Quick answer

Short answer: paid foot traffic data usually costs from about $18,000 to well over $100,000 a year, and most providers only quote it after a demo. Public records show cities paying Placer.ai $18,522 a year for a small licence and $99,750 to $125,686 a year for a larger licence. Ready-made foot traffic datasets on AWS Marketplace are listed at $60,000 a year (PlaceIQ) and $96,000 a year (Factori).

The self-serve end of the market is small. BestTime publishes its prices: a free test without a credit card, then $29 a month including 1,200 credits, or Pro Venues from $96 a month for 50 venues. It sells hourly busyness forecasts for venues, not visitor counts.

What drives the price

  • Counts or timing. Estimated visit counts, trade areas and visitor origins come from large panels and cost the most. Hourly busyness forecasts answer when a place is busy, and cost far less.
  • Coverage and history. A national feed with years of history costs more than a few places or one city.
  • Delivery. Raw feeds for your data team, a dashboard with seats, or an API you call from your own app.
  • Licence. More users cost more: Frisco's Placer.ai contract was limited to 10 users, and its renewal for wider use costs about $100,000 to $126,000 a year.

The cheapest option for each need

  • Visit counts for a store, mall or district: Placer.ai's free version for a first look; small city licences start around $18,500 a year.
  • A national foot traffic dataset for your data team: marketplace listings such as PlaceIQ at $60,000 a year, or a quote from Advan Research, Pine59 or Veraset.
  • Venue details such as names, categories and addresses: Foursquare's Places API, priced per call.
  • Busy and quiet hours for venues in an app, guide or model: BestTime, from $29 a month after a free test.
  • Exact counts at your own doors: a door or camera counter.

What BestTime costs for a venue list

The first forecast for a venue costs 2 credits and each refresh 1 credit. 200 venues refreshed 4 times a month use 1,200 credits, which the $29 monthly minimum covers. For a fixed list you refresh often, Pro Venues is a flat price with unlimited forecasts: $96 a month for 50 venues, $119 a month for 100 venues, $149 a month for 500 venues, $249 a month for 1,000 venues.

BestTime forecasts come from anonymized mobile device signals from a sample of visitors, combined with real-world signals such as weather, events and holidays. Busyness is relative to each venue's own peak hour, so it shows when a place is busy or quiet, not how many people came. Which foot traffic data providers publish their prices?

Few. BestTime publishes its plans. PlaceIQ, Factori and Adentro list prices on AWS Marketplace, and MyTraffic lists a small plan. Placer.ai, Advan Research, Pine59, Veraset, pass_by and Foursquare Attribution sell by quote.

How much does Placer.ai cost?

Placer.ai does not publish prices. Public records show $18,522 for one year in Muskegon, Michigan, and $345,136 over three years for a larger licence in Frisco, Texas.

Does Advan Research publish prices?

No. Advan Research, which bought the SafeGraph Patterns business in 2022, sells its foot traffic data after a demo.

Is there cheap or free foot traffic data?

Placer.ai has a limited free version, the Foursquare Places API starts with 500 free calls on Pro endpoints, and BestTime has a free test without a credit card, then paid use from $29 a month including 1,200 credits.

Why do foot traffic data providers hide their prices?

Prices depend on coverage, history, delivery and the number of users, so most providers quote each deal. Public contracts and marketplace listings are the best guide to real prices.

  2. Where a provider publishes no price, we list public government contracts and AWS Marketplace listings we could open and read, and link each one.
  3. Prices we could only find second-hand, such as in search results or data marketplaces we could not open, are left out.
  4. BestTime prices come from BestTime's own pricing page on the same day.
