When New York City nightlife gets busy, night by night. BestTime forecasts.
Night by night
The scale is relative. Busyness is shown as a percentage of each venue's own busiest hour of the week (100%), not a head count, so an average across venues is average relative busyness, and 55% says the typical bar is a little over half as busy as at its own peak.
| Night | Average busyness (% of weekly peak, 6 PM to 4 AM) | Peak hour | Share of venues lively (70%+ of their peak) | Share of venues whose busiest night it is |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 25% | 7 PM (40%) | 16% | 1% |
| Tuesday | 35% | 7 PM (55%) | 41% | 1% |

How we measured
These numbers are BestTime forecasts, built from anonymized, aggregated phone location data combined with real-world signals such as weather, events and holidays. Busyness is shown as a percentage of each venue's own busiest hour of the week (100%), so the numbers compare a bar with itself, not with its neighbors, and they are not head counts. Our nights run from 6 AM to 5 AM, so midnight on Sunday night still counts as Sunday. Forecasts reflect a typical week, so parades, holidays, ticketed shows and lines at the door are not included.
